New assaults on gun rights must be opposed

in Hand Guns, Self defense

Chewy and I are sitting here watching the Outdoor Channel’s Wednesday night programming on shooting sports,  the day after Obama was sworn in as President of the United States, I am wondering how long it is going to take this administration to make major attacks on our 2nd Amendment  rights.

If you’re not aware of what I speak let’s take a quick look.  President Obama is a known anti gun rights politician that supported legislation in Illinois making it illegal to use a firearm in a self defense situation.  The new Vice President Biden was the author of the 1994 “assault weapons” ban.  The Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi , is a well known opponent of the 2nd Amendment and  voted for the “assault weapons” ban.  Most of the pending cabinet appointees are anti 2nd Amendment people, as are most of the sitting Democratic House and Senate majority.  They will be spurred on by the Brady Campaign.

We can be pretty well assured that as soon as the House and Senate can get the ball rolling they will reintroduce a more potent version of the assault weapons ban that  will include more varieties of weapons and accessories for them, even though there is no proof that the last ban did anything to lower the crime rate.  There will probably be a real hard try to ban ammunition for the designated assault weapons.  Before you say assault weapons ammunition won’t affect me, think again, most of the ammunition calibers that will be included are the most common hunting ammunition calibers.

Ammunition is already getting hard to acquire and the cost has been going up almost monthly.  As are high capacity magazines for both rifles and pistols.  Weapons suppliers and manufactures are having a hard time keeping up for demand for AR-15 style rifles and most high capacity capable handguns, since November’s election.

Some other legislation proposals that are being floated are:  registration of all ammunition purchases, permits to buy ammunition, serial numbering of all ammunition sold, and making it illegal to own any non serialized ammunition.  If they can’t get the guns they’ll go after the ammunition.

All this is being done under the veil of reducing crime.  Maybe somebody should ask the citizens of England and Australia how much safer they are and how their violent crime rates are doing since their governments banned firearms for private citizens.
Additionally, we do well to remember the names Hitler and Stalin.  One of the first things they did was disarm the private citizen and history shows what happened then.

Our forefathers put the 2nd Amendment in the Constitution for a reason, and it’s all the more important that we be more vigilant than ever to attacks on our 2nd Amendment Rights and let our government representatives know that we want our rights left intact.

Remember the quote “When Guns Are Outlawed, Only Outlaws will Have Guns”.  Our Constitution gives us the right to keep and bear arms for the protection of ourselves, our loved ones, and our country.

Chewy and I will be doing our part to defend our rights and we hope you will be there with us.
